Day Four
ockadoodle doooooooo sang the rooster at 7:30 am! As we all climbed out of bed, our stomaches growled, excited to munch on a ham and cheese omelette, bacon, and delicious mango and papayas that were as sweet as honey. Finishing breakfast with some coffee, we packed our bags full of medication and made our way to the new SOPUDEP.
As we stepped out of the van ready to help set up the mobile clinic, we were all pleasantly surprised by the progress that was made just from the two days of being here. After unpacking the medication, we helped Madame Flourentine, a Haitian pharmacist, and the team of Haitian nurses sort out all the medicine as they saw patients and distributed care.
After the mobile clinic, we got to catch up with all of the students we support to attend university. Their stories were filled with motivation, selflessness and charisma beyond belief. Hearing them speak reminded us of our main mission: students supporting students. From dreams of running an orphanage to being in charge of the next presidential campaign, their ambition and intelligence proved that the future of Haiti has so much potential and is in good hands.
Once we caught up with the students, we made our way back home for some bbq marinated chicken, cheesy potato casserole, vegetables, and rice. Bellies happy and full, we ended day 3 with many rounds of the game mafia and laughter.
